Survey

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I’ve made up a Survey about Fox’s Bride, and a possible sequel.

I’m polling to see who you want to see in a sequel.

You can particpate here.

Scroll down to read about my Five Angel Review for Fox’s Bride. And I just go word about a 4 Star Review from Night Owl Romance. :)

WOOT

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Fox’s Bride got another 5 star review. This time though it was 5 Angels from Fallen Angels review. You can read the full review here.

This is a snippett of what Dawnie at Fallen Angels had to say about Fox:

The heat between Madeline and Fox is exciting and kept me eager to turn the page to see what would befall them next. Fox is funny and witty, he interacts with the other characters in a winning way. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and can’t wait to read other stories from Ms. Ruttan.

Thanks Dawnie!! You made my day.

I’m feeling a bit better. I have my voice back so that’s something, but the cough is still there. I spent the weekend working on some WIPS and watching Doctor Who Season 4, because I was so behind. Like twelve episodes behind.

OMG, so funny. I love this series. I wasn’t sure about Catherine Tate being cast as the companion to the Doctor. My heart belongs to Rose, but oh man, I love her!!! She’s just as zany as me. If I were to be a companion to the Doctor, I’d be Catherine Tate. Our only difference is our hair. Hers long and red, and mine, short and well … auburn at the moment. Body shape, oh yeah, we’re the same. Nuttiness, oh yeah, that’s the same too.

So I can’t wait to watch the season finales. When I asked Christine what she thought about this weeks episode all she said to me was O.M.F.G

That has to be good right?

So sick

Friday, June 27th, 2008

I caught the cold that my kids and DH had. It was inevitable. I’ve been running on pure adrenaline for months.

So I’m sitting on the couch, watching reruns of Friends and editing, in between bouts of coughing my head off.

I did manage however, to post the interview I did with AJ Hampton over at Six Degrees of Sexy.

Also I’m participating in an All Author bash here. Come by and say hi to me. :)

I did a TT

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

It’s over at Six Degrees, 13 sexy Vampires.

Boo graduated JK and will be in SK next year. She got a diploma and everything. LOL! I mean come on, a four year old is golden to pass as long as he/she doesn’t eat glue right? LOL!

That’s all I’ve got accomplished tonight. Internet is slow, and I’m going to bed.

A plan people

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

I have four stories on the go. FOUR. I need a plan people.

Getting the plan is the problem.

I’m still at the EDJ until the end of the July so my brain is rattling around. I really can’t focus.

So I need a plan. I need a blog plan. I need a writing plan. I need plans! Lots o’plans.

So I’m going to keep thinking. I just can’t focus. I feel like this right now:

 funny-pictures-office-job-at-bunway-airlines.jpg

So I’m retreating into my cave for a bit. To figure out stuff and to finish these four WIPS before they KILL ME!! LOL!

My question for you all is … do I write a sequel to Fox’s Bride or not?

Just got back

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

I was away this weekend with my friend that’s getting married. I was in the heart of cottage country, without my kids, in my friend and her fiance’s beautiful home in the country.

It was so much fun. First I went for a dress fitting for my bridesmaid dress and I have to say … it’s gorgeous. Not like 27 Dresses at all. LOL. My DH drove out to her place to hang with her fiance and go with him to order IVORY shirts, LOL. Then we went to get our makeup done so that the gals who are doing it on July 19th will know what we need to wear. Then we had smoothies, went shopping, and then headed back to her place for lunch with our guys.

With a bit of relaxing and unfortunately watching Die Hard *shudder*, we got dressed and went to the Greek Festival down town. My friend’s finace is Greek, so their church was hosting it. My friend isn’t greek, but she’s learning LOL.

We had an amazing dinner outside in the sun. I had a shot of ouzo that knocked me flat on my back, and I enjoyed watching my friend’s fiance do a traditional greek dance. With threats that the attendants at the wedding party have to do this dance. EEP.

We rounded off the evening sitting on her couch, in front of their massive plasma tv and watching Wedding Crashers. It was like being in the movies.

Today me and my friend went to a “naughty” bridal shower. She is no supplied with lots of naughty lingerie and other assorted accroutrements. Bwahahahaha. I walked away with a candy belly chain and a mask.  Her cake was hilarious. Her sister got it in Markham and it was a headless torso of a woman (with boobs) but in a pink flowery corset. I took a picture, I’ll upload it later.

Needless to say I had a GREAT time. It’s nice every once and awhile to get together with other couples and not have kids running around. YAY!

How was your weekend?

Plot Boxes

Friday, June 20th, 2008

I know that things get cluttered and hairy in my life when I start listening to Dwight Yokam and Garth Brooks with a bit of Lonestar thrown in. *wink*

My brain has becoming this meeting ground for characters, both old and new converging and meeting in my gray matter and all protestrating that they want their stories. NOW, the characters that I’ve written about are content and happy, gloating and smug in the corner … laughing at all the other characters demanding my time.

I think it was Bonnie who mentioned a box, write down the plot, a blurb, some dialogue and stick it away so it won’t bother me when I’m working on another project.

I thought this was a great idea, I just never got around to it. Well, I seriously am doing that right now. While I was in there trying to stop fights and seperate characters. Contemporary businessman from fighting with sword weilding Vikings and a neurotic zombie trying to become a vegan, then turning to chatise the characters that got their stories. Making them feel ashamed for teasing the others that’s when a couple of more characters plopped in as I listened to Dena Carter’s Strawberry Wine.

“ENOUGH!” I shouted. I blew my whistle. Did the tee sign for a timeout.

I need a plot box. So that’s what I’m doing tonight. Getting them down on paper so I can ferret them away, giving them hope that they will get their day in the sun.

Trust me, I’m not complaining about these converging ideas. See, I’m glad I have so many ideas. I’m glad the fount isn’t going dry, for I have a confession.

Remember a couple of days ago when I was venting about the EDJ?

I quit Monday. I won’t go into details, but I’m looking forward to August, when I will be really writing for a living.

So I need my plot box, for my sanity.

Cause, I’m not dealing with these brawls anymore. LOL!

OH and Wylie told me John Barrowman is in Toronto taping a show called Maria. WHAT!! Why wasn’t I told sooner???

*sigh*

A Few things

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Okay, first the lovely Julia is doing a review on Fox’s Bride for me. So go on and check it out.

Second Ellora’s Cave is going to have a convention next year. Go to Six Degrees of Sexy to find out more.

Third, since you’re over at Six Degrees of Sexy check out my TT about 13 of the hotties of Sci Fi. Well, ones that I find hunky.

I think that’s it. I think. LOL. I’ll let you know.

Sort of Researching … I guess

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Today was my half day, I intended to write. I did about 3k, which is good. I wasn’t feeling that well this afternoon.

Anyways, I was goofing around on the internet and decided to do some character profiling. Well, I mean find pictures that I think represent my characters in order to do a image board.

I found some cool pictures to say the least.

Thought I would share some. I just recently finished a Scottish Victorian historical titled The Laird’s Return. So I thought I would share some of the characters with you:

01patatonesuvanityfairap9.jpg This is my hero, Liam McFarland. He was supposed to be Laird of his clan when his father died. Instead he let his family down ten years ago and joined the British Army. He left behind his betrothed Isabelle to fight in the Anglo Zulu wars in South Africa. His brother Robbie McFarland was forced to take over. Liam only returns ten years later when he receives a mysterious letter from his brother.

jason_flemyng.jpg This is Robbie McFarland. My hero’s brother, he’s dying of syphillis. He was forced to take over as Laird when their father died. He married Isabelle, Liam’s woman, and he prefers the company of males. Of course this being Victorian England this is all on the hush hush. His plan is to fake his death, have Liam impregnate Isabelle to secure the successorship and spend the remaining years of his life with his lover. That is if Liam and Isabelle go for his plan.

prazzi-hugh-grant-pics-014.jpg This is Leith McFarland. He’s next in line to take over if Robbie doesn’t produce an heir, (Liam’s been shunned and removed as a potential canidate by the clan). He’s Robbie and Liam’s cousin. He has designs on Isabelle, and he has creditors threatening to send him to Newgate debtor’s prison. Making him not a happy or stable individual.

rachel_weisz.jpg My Heroine, Isabelle McLaren. Or should I say Isabelle McFarland. Left ten years ago by our hero, she married his brother but has remained untouched due to Robbie’s lifestyle. She yearns for more, she yearns for Liam. His ghost still haunts her as she never knew what became of him. She settled into a life that was mundane and predictable. That is until Liam McFarland showed up again, then nothing was predictable any more.

So those are my characters. What do you think?

I also found this picture:

Haven’t quite figured out what to do with it, but it rocks doesn’t it?

Pleh…

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Things at the EDJ have been Pleh. I’ll vent in a couple of days ;), but that’s why I’ve been MIA.

This weekend when I was out shopping for father’s day gifts I found something for myself, The Ice Pirates, starring the late Robert Urich. I mentioned the Ice Pirates on my pirate Thursday Thirteen a couple of weeks ago at Six Degrees.

imported_image_programme.jpg

I was so excited to find it on DVD. So after a long day of walking the mall I poured myself a cool drink of Diet Coke, put my feet up and watched The Ice Pirates.

I have to admit, I think it’s been nearly twenty years since I’ve seen this movie. First, I can’t believe my father would let a six year old watch this movie. WHOA. Second, I realize that Robert Urich as Jason the Ice Pirate is the model for most of my heroes. Well, swashbuckling heroes anyways.

Since I started writing heroes, and I’ve been playing stories in my head with my Barbies since I was young I always had a vision of what my hero looked like. I just haven’t put two and two together until today.

I’m sorry Robert Urich in his hay day was one attractive dude. I wanted to be like Denise Crosby from The Ice Pirates … I think I ended up more like Angelica Huston. ROFL.

Sorry for my like side tangent there.

Do you have any favorite heroes from your childhood? No, no Gerard Butlers or Clive Owens people!! Eighties and older only please.

My mother’s was John Wayne … I’m sorry but Marion jumped his shark when he played Ghengis Kahn.
