HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

summer-and-fall-2008-079.jpg

The snow is melting, and the graveyard is set up. It’s so warm here now we don’t need a jacket, so I predict muay colds on the horizon. Anyways I won’t be around too much, trying to get the kidlets ready and calm down, they are already wired like crazy monkeys.

Here they are in their Halloween costumes this year. They were at a Halloween party this past Sunday so I was able to snatch a picture of them, and that’s my Spooky Town on top of my piano, and Skeleton Steve. :)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Look what we got …

summer-and-fall-2008-086.jpg

Yeah that would be snow. We had a snowstorm last night. This is after a day of melting, but it knocked down trees and cut power in half of the city. Lots of trees are gone. And yeah, that’s my neighbor’s soft maple that fell over on my driveway.

We also have a snowsquall warning for tonight. *yay* :(

I haven’t been able to put up my graveyard because of the snow, and I doubt I will be able to this year which blows and the poor kids will be wearing snowsuits under their costumes. I’m going to hibernate now.

Haunting Good Fun

Monday, October 27th, 2008

The haunting hour approaches and I came across some information about some fun haunting games to play.

The most common is dunking or apple bobbing, in which apples float in a tub or a large basin of water; the participants must use their teeth to remove an apple from the basin. A variant of dunking involves kneeling on a chair, holding a fork between the teeth and trying to drop the fork into an apple. Some games traditionally played at Halloween are forms of divination. In Puicíní (pronounced “poocheeny”), a game played in

Ireland, a blindfolded person is seated in front of a table on which several saucers are placed. The saucers are shuffled and the seated person then chooses one by touch. The contents of the saucer determine the person’s life during the following year. A saucer containing earth means someone known to the player will die during the next year, a saucer containing water foretells emigration, a ring foretells marriage, a set of Rosary beads indicates that the person will take Holy Orders (becoming a nun or a priest). A coin means new wealth, a bean means poverty, and so on. In 19th century

Ireland
, young women placed
slugs in saucers sprinkled with flour. A traditional Irish and Scottish form of divining one’s future spouse is to carve an apple in one long strip, then toss the peel over one’s shoulder. The peel is believed to land in the shape of the first letter of the future spouse’s name. This custom has survived among Irish and Scottish immigrants in the rural

United States.
Unmarried women were frequently told that if they sat in a darkened room and gazed into a mirror on Halloween night, the face of their future husband would appear in the mirror. However, if they were destined to die before marriage, a skull would appear. The custom was widespread enough to be commemorated on greeting cards from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The mirror gaze was one of many forms of love divination around Halloween and other ancient holy days.

Now I don’t know about the whole spouse thing, I thought that if you stared at a mirror in a darkened room you’d see Bloody Mary. LOL.

BRAINS!!

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Hehehe. Sorry, I had a zombie voice in my head whilst I was typing the title.

I love Kraft Canada. LOVE that website. It freaking rocks. You can put in 3 ingredients and Kraft Canada will give you multiple recipes, and it’s especially good if you are on a budget. Here’s the link.

I thought I would showcase a healthy spooktacular snack from their website:

Mmm, doesn’t that look yummy. I think so, because crudites are my number one crave. I am bummed though that Peaches and Peach juice and anything related to that makes me want to hurl, sorry side tangent there.

Here’s the recipe:

POUR 1 cup Kraft Rancher’s Choice Dressing into a small bowl lined with lettuce leaves to resemble hair.

STARTING with the bowl as the head, form a skeleton shape by arranging sliced fresh vegetables such as peppers, cucumber slices, snow peas, mushrooms, celery or carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, broccoli and cauliflower. It’s a fun way to get kids to eat vegetables.

And just cause I gots zombies on the brain, as it were. I particularly like the guy with the karate kick at the end.

You hear about that 13 pound kid …

Well, you’ll probably be hearing a similar story next July.

Lilypie Expecting a baby Ticker

Totally by accident. Remember back in August when I was considering. Yeah well I squashed the thought and went about my business. Stupid 80% failure rate.

Regardless I’m getting a real bang for my buck on Independance Day 2009 … and I’m not even American. ;)

Another Movie to be watched on Halloween

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

I’m still sick, had a relapse on Monday. Can’t breath, can barely talk and in the spirit of Beetlejuice lots of nastiness!

This is one of my favorite Tim Burton movies. I just realized in fact how many TB movies dominant my Halloween watching list. I love Tim Burton.

It’s getting closer …

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Next Friday in fact. I can’t believe it’s this close. So I’ll be sharing lots of my favorite Halloween things, including my must see Halloween specials and movies. Are there any Halloween specials or movies you have to watch when it comes around Halloween time. The one below is one I watch both at Halloween and Christmas time.

Googling myself

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Yeah, I do it. We all do. It sounds so dirty, but I google myself on a regular basis. Though I hadn’t in about two weeks, which means I didn’t discover this great review that I got from Just Erotic Romance Reviews.

I got a 4 with the heat level of O.

You can read the review here.

So other than Googling myself I have been creating a character name database. Something Eloisa James mentioned, so that you don’t keep naming your characters the same things, and your readers thinking you’re writing a story about another character. It lists the character name and what book they were in, and whether they are a main character or secondary … that kind of thing.

Do you Google yourself?
