I dids it all by meself
I was a pampered daughter. My dad built things, I didn’t really use tools etc., I never really lived on my own before. Just couldn’t afford to go away to school. I lived, worked, and did community college whilst living at home. Besides my contribution helped my parents during some tough times.
Then I got engaged, and moved in, across the province (my parents have since moved here) with my fiancee now husband. He took on the building of things.
Yesterday I went to Walmart, I needed some laminate shelving for our closet. Our closet is bursting despite the fat clothes purge I did when I dropped 40lbs. My DH was working late last night (he didn’t get home till 1 a.m.,) and I was home, caught up on everything. I had even baked. BAKED. I wanted to clean and I wanted those shelves to be built. So I did it. I built two closet organizer shelves myself.
I know some of you are saying big Whoop de doo Amy. Hey I didn’t even know what a Philips #2 was until yesterday. I know I am a blow for Woman’s rights, but I was of the mind “Hey if someone else is gonna do it …” well now I can.
I was very proud of my small accomplishment. Though I was hammering during Sumo’s favorite show that he growled and said in a very whiny voice “MOMEEE!” and rolled his eyes (he’s not even two yet!!!).
That was my adventure yesterday. DH was impressed, really impressed until I started about using a saw. LOL!
As for writing I’ve been doing really well on a story my Muse was nagging me to write. She didn’t want me working on NaNo. She wanted me to work on another story, and then she gave me an idea for another one, so I am working on two simultaneously. Sven will be happy when I check in this Sunday.
I’ll have to take a break tomorrow, tomorrow I am taking my daughter to see Enchanted.
Anything exciting happening with you? Anything you need me to build? LOL!

Way to go on your shelves!! I can do those types of things if I need to. However, I much prefer having my husband do them. This weekend I plan on writting (so close to the end of my first draft) and cleaning my house. That’s enough work to keep me going for a month!

I’m impressed. I’ve never built anything. I suppose I could if I set my mind to it but hubby enjoys that stuff so I humor him
Way to go on the writing, Amy. I’ve been having a good spurt, too.

Oh Amy, can you do my baking and home repair too? Way to go, girlfriend.
I’m prepping my entry for Golden Heart and struggling to clean out my dining room for the party I’m having tomorrow. Ack! Then I get back to the WIP. My Nano efforts this year are totally lame-o.

Cool work, Amy! I don’t do much of that myself unless I have to.

Back pats for you girl!
I lived on my own for a goodly time before marriage so I can put stuff together (as long as there’s instructions). I even once changed a toilet. It wasn’t fun, but I did it.

Woo-hoo! Go, you! I’m even more impressed by the fact that you’re caught up on everything, AND you’re working on two stories simultaneously! You’re an inspiration.

Good work on the shelves, Amy. Between Gizmo Guy and I, I’m the one to build shelves (and build bookcases from scratch, and put up dry wall, and drop ceilings, and lay carpet … my parents built their own house, so I got a lot of hands-on experience.) Hubby is good with electrical things - except ovens, but he’s not really a hands-on guy. So I have to know how to do things like that. But doesn’t it give you a sense of accomplishment? To know that you can do things like that by yourself. It’s a great feeling.

Oh wow Amy! You did great! And I just watched Enchanted TOO, isn’t it wonderful? I loved it. Sigh, sigh, sigh.

Putting shelves together isn’t in my job description. LOL You’ve got more ambition than me. I look at something like that and my brain turns to mush. I can never make heads nor tails of the instructions so I hand them off to DH.
