Writing Meme
Julia, the lovely Julia put this Meme up, and I know she didn’t tag me but Jennifer McKenzie said she tags whoever wants to play so … here it is.
1. List one of your writing goals for the upcoming month, and how likely are you to accomplish it?
Well, I have two writing goals that have to be complete in September. First, finish a novella for an upcoming call to submission for EC. That is very likely, I am almost done. Second, I have to complete Sorceress from the Sea, the second book in that 5 book deal I just sold. I will have it done by September 30th. No ifs ands or buts. This deal is great for obvious reasons, but I think it will teach me a lot more about writing on time and achieving my goals quicker.
2. What genre or subject would you like to write about that youd aren’t currently?
I think that would be Sci Fi, not Sci Fi Romance, but Sci Fi. I’ve always been a fan … or forced into being a fan by my father first, then my hubby (but I already like Star Trek by then), and then Christine. So I think I would really like to try a real Sci Fi book. Something dark, and in space.
3. What is your writing lifestyle habits? How do you manage the interruptions with your writing? How do you stay positive? How do you believe in your writing success.
My habits, well I write at night. I’m trying to train the muse to write during the day since the loss of the EDJ, but she hasn’t got on board … yet. I spend a lot of the day plotting and marketing and then at night I focus on the writing. I constantly think plots, no matter what I am doing. I even dream plots. Managing interruptions is essential with two rug rats, I can tune out their screeches when I am writing. I take breaks of course to be with them, feed them, potty train Sumo. I don’t notice the interruptions probably because I am so used to them, and even during the interruptions the plot continues in my brain. To stay positive I listen to music, I talk to other author friends, read positive reviews of my book. Sometimes when rejections come in … I get down, but then I try to think of how far I have come and how much I love writing and storytelling so I keep swimming. I just keep swimming.
4. Are you a panster or a plotter?
I used to be a panster. I am now a plotter. Still not totally hardcore, but I need to now plot and plan before I write.
5. Who are two of your favorite current authors and why?
I think two of my current faves are definitely Katie McAlister, I think she’s an absolute hoot! I love to be carried away in her zany voice. And number two is a definite tie between TRWer Molly O’Keefe because I can really feel for her characters, and I was not a Super Romance reader, still not unless it’s Molly. She knows how to really get at my core emotions, and Kelley Armstrong, she can grip me as a reader (and this is important it’s been hard to grab me lately), and carry me through a suspenseful edge of the seat type of ride.
6. How does your family feel about your writing?
My hubby, my parents and my Aunt Margaret are the most supportive people in my life. I’ve had a few skeptics that said “Oh well it’s a nice hobby” when I was first starting out. Their tune has recently changed, whatever, I don’t think of that. I think about the people that were their from day one telling me I can do it.
And like Jennifer I don’t like to tag, so I tag whoever wants to play. Let me know so I can visit.

Really enjoyed reading about your writing life, Amy. Not that I didn’t have an inkling about it, because one of the wonderful things about your blog is how you share the writer’s journey with all of us. When I first found your blog, you were still waiting for The Call, so you inspire me when I need it.

That was great, Amy. I’m always fascinated by how other people write or their take on the writing business. Thanks for sharing!

Great meme, loved reading the answers. You should talk to Larissa, she’s dying to write a Star Trek novel (I actually started a couple of them, but quickly realised I can’t do it- my storylines tend to be on the this changes everything scale
). I did the meme and have posted my answers.
